As the scheme of things seemed at that point in time, I was not to be a Prafullain by any remote chance. But I was destined to. I studied in PCC from 1965-1967 HSC. My grandfather, aunts, uncles all studied in this colege, so did my brother and I. An aunt and an Uncle taught in this college too. Most teachers were excellent. Can't forget the shondesh on kolapata; piercing toads for dissection and not using choloform for the sake of the lab attendent; boys teasing me as "court mosjider moulana", where I was wearing fashionable kurta (and certainly not any 'mathaey kapor or hijab'). It used to be a trend setter college cultural activity wise. PCC now BPCM salute thee. Perveen

This city’s name broadly taken means ‘habitat of tigers’ but the literal meaning for bagh is garden or tiger, and hat is market place. This meaning aptly describes the physical condition of this low mangrove forest, which was inhabited by the Royal Bengal Tiger. Founded by legendary warrior–Saint Ulugh Khan Jahan in the early fifteenth century, Bagerhat later become a mint town of the independent Sultans of Bengal and was called Khalifatabad. Khan Jahan is considered one of the main torchbearers of Islam in the south of Bengal and built hundreds of mosques and public structures. Among those, 60-domed mosque is the biggest brick-made mosque in Bangladesh. Today, Bagerhat is being developed as a tourist spot but the tomb of Khan Jahan still remains a center of pilgrimage. This Historic Mosque City of Bagerhat is declared as a world Heritage site in 1985.

The Sixty Dome Mosque (Bengali: ষাট গম্বুজ মসজিদ) (more commonly known as Shait Gumbad Mosque or Saith Gunbad Masjid) is the largest historical mosque in Bangladesh and one of the most impressive Muslim architectural structures on the Indian Subcontinent. It is located in Bagerhat in southern Bangladesh.[1] The mosque was built by Khan Jahan Ali in the 15th century and has walls of unusually thick, tapered brick in the Tughlaq style and a hut-shaped roofline that anticipates later styles. There are over seventy low domes while the interior is divided into many aisles and bays by slender columns which culminate in numerous arches that support the roof.[2] The mosque is decorated mostly with terracotta and bricks.

Hazrat Pir Khan Jahan Ali who dedicated his life for the Islam. He came here from bagdad with his disciples. He set up his camp and with the help of his disciples he started teaching about Islam. There were many enemies of Islam and he fought against them and won the battle. A lot of non-muslims accepted Islam attracting to the divine virtu of Khan Jahan Ali. Bagerhat is really a place of historical importantce.

Bagerhat, a great historical place. There You will see the Mazar of Khan Jahan Ali – a fine one storied building, It has a beautiful dome. Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali was buried there. The tomb is made of cut out stones. It cannot be accurately said where from these were brought. It is said that Pir Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali brought these from Chittagong by floating on water. On the tomb there are inscriptions in Arabic. An inscription says that he died on 25th October, 1459. There is a small mosque nearby. A close associate of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali was buried outside the tomb. On the night of the full moon of the month of Chaitra a big fair is held beside the Mazar. Many people attend the fair. There is a tank in front of the Mazar. The local people call it the Dighi of Hazrat Khan Jahan Ali . There are some crocodiles in this big tank. They come near when the fakirs call them and give them something to eat.

I could not find the 'shal trees" here during my recent visit to Bagerhat .Had they been died their natural death or somebody had cut them down?I still remember the bats who were hanging on the branches of the trees in daytime.
